Zebra DS3608 Industrial 2D Barcode Scanner (DS3608-XR3RF50BZVW)

The Zebra DS3608 is an ultra-rugged corded 2D handheld scanner built for warehouses, manufacturing plants, cold storage and outdoor yards. It reads virtually every 1D and 2D barcode – including damaged, dirty, shrink-wrapped and poorly printed codes – and survives multiple 3 m drops to concrete, 7,500 tumbles and full submersion in water (IP65 and IP68 sealing). The scanner is backed by a 3-year (36-month) Zebra warranty. This version, DS3608-XR3RF50BZVW, has the Extended Range (XR) engine (reads from 5 cm to over 30 m, with a green laser aimer) and is supplied as a Siemens PROFINET Industrial Ethernet kit – with an RS232 cable and the Zebra EA3600 Ethernet adapter for direct connection to PLCs.

Key Features

• Virtually indestructible – withstands multiple 3 m (10 ft) drops to concrete and 7,500 tumbles from 1 m – the highest drop and tumble specifications in its class.
• IP65 and IP68 sealing – dust-tight, protected against water jets and fully submersible, so the scanner can be hosed down and used outdoors in rain and snow.
• Works from −30 °C to 50 °C – in freezers and cold stores, on outdoor docks and yards and in hot production halls.
• Extended Range (XR) engine – dual near and far sensors with IntelliFocus read barcodes from 5 cm up to 32 m (100 mil Code 39), from a label in the hand to the top rack shelf. The green laser aimer is up to 7× more visible than a red aiming dot, even in direct sunlight.
• FIPS 140-3 certified – the XR version is certified compliant with FIPS 140-3 for government and other security-sensitive environments.
• Ready for the plant floor – the included EA3600 adapter connects the scanner directly to your PROFINET PLC network over RJ45, without third-party protocol converters.
• PRZM intelligent imaging – reads damaged, dirty, poorly printed, low-contrast and shrink-wrapped barcodes at the first attempt, as well as Digimarc digital watermarks.
• Multi-Code Data Formatting and Label Parse+ – capture up to 20 barcodes with one trigger pull and automatically parse GS1 data such as expiry dates and lot numbers.
• Clear feedback in noisy environments – Direct Decode Indicator, bright wrap-around LEDs, a loud beeper and vibration confirm every good read.
• Flexible connectivity – USB, RS232 and keyboard wedge, plus direct Industrial Ethernet (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, TCP/IP) to PLCs via the Zebra EA3600 adapter – no third-party converters needed.
• Free management tools – configure with 123Scan, manage remotely with Scanner Management Service (SMS) and integrate using the Zebra Scanner SDK and Network Connect (Zebra DataCapture DNA).

Ideal Applications

• Warehouses and distribution centres – receiving, put-away, picking, cycle counting and shipping
• Manufacturing and automotive – work-in-process, parts tracking and quality control, including direct PLC connection on production lines
• Cold storage and food processing – freezer rooms, wash-down areas and loading docks
• Transport, ports and yards – outdoor scanning in rain, snow and direct sunlight
• Forklift and vehicle-mounted scanning – with the rugged holder and forklift power accessories

Technical Specifications

Not sure which version you need? Choose SR for everyday 1D/2D scanning at short to medium distances, HP for a longer reach plus OCR, HD for very small, high-density codes, and XR to scan everything from 5 cm to over 30 m – from the hand to the top shelf. The DS3608 uses dedicated DS3600-series cables, so if you do not already have one, pick a version with a USB cable included, or one of the Industrial Ethernet kits for direct PLC connection.
