The GD4200 and GBT4200 are the same Gryphon linear imager: same reading engine, same ranges, same housing. The difference is the connection. The GD4200 (GD4220-BKK1) sits on a USB cable and needs no charging. The GBT4200 (GBT4200-BK-BTK1) is cordless, with a Bluetooth base that charges it without contacts. Pick the GD4200 for a fixed desk or checkout, the GBT4200 when people walk to the goods.

    Choose the GD4200 if
    • The scanner stays at one desk, checkout or packing table
    • You want no batteries to charge or replace
    • You prefer the lighter scanner and the longer 5-year warranty
    • Your software runs on a PC with a free USB port
    Choose the GBT4200 if
    • Staff carry the scanner to goods, shelves or bulky items
    • You want to pair it directly with a tablet or phone over Bluetooth
    • Your POS needs RS-232: the base supports it with a separate RS-232 cable
    • A cable across the counter gets in the way

    What both models share

Both scanners read 1D barcodes only, including GS1 DataBar and barcodes on phone screens. For QR codes and other 2D codes, choose a 2D imager instead. Both use Datalogic's Motionix motion sensing to get ready to read when you pick them up, a soft line viewfinder for aiming at one barcode among several, and the Green Spot plus three green lights to confirm a good read. The housing is made for regular cleaning with harsh disinfectants.

Programming is the same too. Both use the same Product Reference Guide, the same programming barcodes and Datalogic Aladdin, and both work as a USB keyboard out of the box. Keyboard country, Enter or Tab and reset work the same way on both, see Gryphon 4200 programming.

    What about the GM4200?

The GM4200 is the third cordless model in the family. Instead of Bluetooth it uses Datalogic's STAR radio (433 MHz or 910 MHz versions) with a matching STAR base, and it cannot pair with phones or PCs. It suits sites that already run Datalogic STAR scanners; for most new setups the GBT4200 is the simpler choice.

Setting up either model is covered in the Gryphon GD4200 and GBT4200 setup guide. All guides: GD4200 · GBT4200.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the Gryphon GD4200 a 2D scanner?

No. The GD4200 and GBT4200 are linear imagers for 1D barcodes. They do not read QR codes.

How far can I walk with the GBT4200?

Datalogic states up to 100 m from the base in open air. Walls, shelving and metal shorten the range.

Can the GBT4200 charge by USB cable?

It charges in its base, without contacts. The base itself is powered by USB or an external power supply.

Do both models use the same programming barcodes?

Yes. Datalogic covers both in one Product Reference Guide, so settings such as Country Mode and suffix are the same.
