The Honeywell Xenon XP 1952h-bf is the battery-free version of Honeywell's cordless Xenon Extreme Performance (XP) 1952h healthcare scanner. Instead of a battery it uses super-capacitors that fully charge in the base in under 2 minutes from a standard USB port (under 60 seconds from a powered USB port or a power supply) and typically power more than 450 scans – there is no battery to maintain, replace or dispose of, and the super-capacitors are rated for 500,000 charge cycles. Its white disinfectant-ready housing resists the harmful effects of harsh cleaning chemicals, and its High Density (HD) optics read small codes on medication, patient wristbands and specimen tubes at the first attempt. Bluetooth® gives clinicians freedom of movement up to 10 m from the base – ideal for workflows in which the scanner returns to its base between tasks. This version, 1952HHD-5USB-9BF-R, is the USB kit with desktop/wall-mount base: it is supplied with the battery-free scanner, the white CCB15-BF charge and communication base and a 3 m USB cable – everything you need to start scanning cordlessly at your PC.

📦 What's in the box – 1952HHD-5USB-9BF-R

  • ✅ Honeywell Xenon XP 1952h-bf scanner – 1952HHD-5-BF, High Density (HD), white disinfectant-ready housing, battery-free
  • ℹ️ No battery – built-in super-capacitors – fully charge in the base in under 2 minutes via USB (under 60 seconds with powered USB or a power supply) and typically power more than 450 scans per charge
  • ✅ Desktop/wall-mount charge and communication base (Bluetooth base) – Honeywell CCB15-010BT-HC-BF – white healthcare base made for the battery-free scanner, for the desk or for wall mounting; charges the scanner and sends the scanned data to your PC
  • ✅ USB cable – straight, 3 m, Honeywell CBL-500-300-S00 – connects the base to your PC or POS and powers it
  • ❌ Power supply – not included (not needed for USB: the base is powered via the USB cable)

💡 How it works: connect the base to your PC with the USB cable, then place the scanner in the base – a single beep confirms the link. Return the scanner to the base after each task: the ready-to-scan LED typically flashes within 20 seconds (enough for more than 100 scans), and two configurable recharge alerts warn the user before the charge runs low. The base transmits the scanned data via USB (RS232, keyboard wedge and IBM 46xx are possible with other Honeywell cables); the range is up to 10 m.

🔌 No power supply is needed with the USB cable – the base is powered from the USB port. Optional: the Honeywell power supply 46-00526 (EU plug) (UK: Honeywell 46-00870-6) fully charges the scanner in under 60 seconds and is usually required when the base is connected via RS232 or keyboard wedge.

Key Features

  • Battery-free technology – super-capacitors replace the battery: a full charge takes under 2 minutes from standard USB and under 60 seconds from powered USB or a power supply, and typically powers more than 450 scans. 500,000 charge cycles and a 5-year super-capacitor warranty – no battery maintenance, replacement or disposal.
  • Disinfectant-ready housing – the white plastic housing is engineered to resist the harmful effects of harsh chemicals, so the scanner can be wiped and disinfected regularly.
  • High Density (HD) optics – reads small, dense codes from 3 mil linear codes and 5 mil PDF417, ideal for tiny labels on medication, syringes, specimen tubes and patient wristbands.
  • Superior scanning performance – reads damaged and poorly printed barcodes on labels and on phone screens, with motion tolerance of up to 4 m/s and omnidirectional reading (±360°).
  • Always ready – in the base the ready-to-scan LED typically flashes in under 20 seconds; the super-capacitors hold their charge for hours, and two configurable alerts (at about 30% and 10%) remind users to return the scanner to its base.
  • Cordless Bluetooth® – Bluetooth 4.2 with adaptive frequency hopping (Class 2) lets clinicians move up to 10 m from the base – no cables in the way of patients, visitors or expensive equipment.
  • Desk or wall base – the CCB15-BF base stands on the desk or mounts on the wall at the nurses' station or in the patient room; depending on the cable it connects to the PC via USB, keyboard wedge, RS-232 or IBM 46xx (RS485).
  • Built to last – the scanner withstands 50 drops from 1.8 m to concrete, is IP42 sealed and comes with a 3-year Honeywell factory warranty (super-capacitor: 5 years).
  • Easy management – Honeywell Scanner Management Utility (SMU) automates deployment and updates; Operational Intelligence provides device insights.

Ideal Applications

  • Positive patient identification – wristbands at admission, on the ward and at the bedside
  • Barcode medication administration and verification at the point of care
  • Nurses' stations and admission desks – the scanner is always at hand in its wall-mounted base
  • Laboratory specimen labelling, tracking and tracing
  • Hospital and community pharmacy – dispensing checks and medication intake
  • Care homes, clinics and other environments that require frequent disinfection

The Xenon XP 1952h-bf is designed for healthcare workflows in which the scanner goes back to its base between tasks – so it is always charged and its battery never needs replacing, because there is none. If the scanner will be used away from the base for longer periods, ask us about battery-powered healthcare scanners; for corded healthcare scanning, see the Honeywell Xenon Ultra 1960h.
