Print Shopify shipping labels on a thermal label printer (100×150)

Shopify can print shipping labels on a thermal label printer, but in the Baltics, Finland and Czechia the labels come from a carrier app or the carrier’s portal, not from Shopify itself. Here is which route applies to your shop and how to print every label at 100×150 mm on a Zebra, TSC or Honeywell printer.

Before you start: Shopify Shipping or a carrier app

There are two ways to get a label for a Shopify order:

• Shopify Shipping – you buy the label in the Shopify admin. Shopify sells labels only for fulfilment locations in the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain. Of our six markets, only Poland is on that list. There, Shopify documents DHL eCommerce in Poland as an early-access service for some stores: labels to other EU countries only, no domestic labels, drop-off at a DHL locker.
• The carrier’s app or portal – it creates the label from the order under your carrier contract. This is the usual route in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Czechia, and for domestic parcels in Poland.

Install your carrier’s app

The table lists apps published by the carrier or linked from the carrier’s own integration pages, with the developer from the App Store listing. Our carrier guides cover each portal in detail.

Most apps need API credentials from your carrier contract. Matkahuolto, Packeta, PPL, Česká pošta, Poczta Polska and ORLEN Paczka list no Shopify app of their own; some name partner apps. For them and for UPS, see our carrier guide or print from the carrier’s business portal.

Choose a single-label format in the app

A thermal printer needs one label per page. Where the app offers a choice, pick the label-sized format, not A4:

• DPD Baltics (WSA app): set the Label format to A6 in the app’s options. The app maker’s onboarding guide for DPD Baltics says the page size in the print dialog must match this format and the margins should be at minimum.
• Venipak: set Label format to the sticker size.
• InPost: in the app’s “Przesyłki” (Shipments) tab, use the print labels button and choose PDF A6 in the format window, unless you have set up raw ZPL or EPL printing.
• DHL Express: the app is DHL Express Commerce, which offers 100×150 mm, 100×200 mm and A4 labels; choose 100×150 mm in its print settings, as in our DHL Express guide.

If the app documents no format option, print one label and check the PDF page size. If it is A4, ask the carrier or the app developer how to get a label printer format.

Set the label size in the printer driver

Windows has to know the paper is 100×150 mm, otherwise labels come out small or cut off.

• Zebra: in the ZDesigner driver’s Printing preferences, set the label to 100 mm wide and 150 mm high under Page Setup › Media Settings, and check that Printing mode under Print Options is Thermal Direct. Details in Print 100×150 mm shipping labels on Zebra printers.

Shopify’s ZD220 setup page advises installing the driver before you connect the printer by USB; otherwise Windows may show it as an unknown device.

Print the label at the right scale

1. Open the label from the app; it opens in a new tab or downloads as a PDF. Allow pop-ups for your Shopify admin.
2. Choose Print and select your label printer. Check that the paper size shows 100×150 mm.
3. If the PDF page is exactly 100×150 mm (4×6 in), print at actual size (100 %). For any other single-label page size, such as A6, choose Fit to page (the name varies by program).
4. Never shrink an A4 or A5 sheet that holds several labels onto one label: the barcodes become too small to scan. Change the format in the app instead.
5. Print one label and scan its barcodes before you print the rest.

Printing labels bought with Shopify Shipping

If your Polish location can buy labels in Shopify:

• Several labels: go to Orders › Shipping labels, select the labels, click Print documents, choose the page size Thermal (4 x 6 inch / 100 x 150 mm / A6) (Letter and A4 are for desktop printers) and click Continue to print. You can print up to 100 labels at a time.
• One order: open the order, click Print label, select your printer and a paper size that matches it, then click Print.

Shopify lists the Zebra ZD421 and ZD220 among its supported label printers. You can choose your label printer when you buy labels or on the Shipping and delivery settings page.
