Datalogic QD2200 vs QW2520: 1D or 2D corded scanner?
The QD2200 reads 1D barcodes further away; the QW2520 adds QR codes and other 2D codes, any-angle reading and IP52. Specs side by side and which to choose.
In this guide
The QuickScan QD2200 and QW2520 look alike and are set up the same way, but they read different barcodes. The QD2200 is a 1D linear imager: it reads the classic striped barcodes, and reads them further away. The QW2520 is a 2D imager that also reads QR codes, Data Matrix and PDF417, in any orientation, and has better dust sealing. If you will ever need a QR code, choose the QW2520.

Figures from the QuickScan I QD2200 Quick Reference Guide, the QuickScan QD/QW2500 Quick Reference Guide and Datalogic's product pages (trigger life). Ranges are Datalogic's typical values for good-quality labels.
- You scan only 1D barcodes: EAN and UPC on products, Code 128 on shipping labels
- You read long or large barcodes from further away, for example on documents or packaging
- You want the lightest and simplest scanner for a checkout
- You need QR codes, Data Matrix or PDF417, on paper or on phone screens
- Staff should scan without lining up the barcode
- The scanner works in a dusty place or gets heavy daily use
What both scanners share
Both are corded USB scanners that type into any program as a USB keyboard, without a driver. Both use the same Datalogic programming method: ENTER/EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE barcodes from the reference guides, or the free Datalogic Aladdin program on a PC. The Product Reference Guides of both list the same 98 keyboard Country Modes, including Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Finnish, Polish and Czech. Both kits come with Datalogic's collapsible stand/holder (STD-QW25-BK), and both show Datalogic's Green Spot on a good read. See QD2200 and QW2520 setup and QD2200 and QW2520 programming.
Where they differ in daily use
Barcodes on phones. Datalogic says the QD2200 reads electronic coupons on smartphone screens, but only 1D barcodes. Tickets, apps and loyalty cards often show QR codes, and only the QW2520 reads those.
Aiming. The QD2200 reads along its red line, so the line has to cross the whole barcode. The QW2520 reads a code in any rotation, so staff don't have to line it up.
Hands-free use. Neither scanner detects the collapsible stand by itself. You switch on hands-free reading with a Scan Mode barcode: Stand Mode on the QD2200, Scan Mode = Stand Mode/Object Detection on the QW2520.

Which reads further, the QD2200 or the QW2520?
The QD2200, for 1D barcodes: Datalogic states up to 680 mm for a standard 13 mil EAN-13, against 400 mm for the QW2520.
Do both scanners work with the same stand?
Yes. Both kits include the collapsible stand/holder STD-QW25-BK. For hands-free scanning, set the Scan Mode with a barcode.
Are the QD2200 and QW2520 programmed the same way?
Yes, with Datalogic programming barcodes or the Aladdin program. A few barcode names differ, such as the hands-free Scan Mode barcode.
